As of October 22, 2026, Etsy's listing appeal system is open to every seller, not just the pilot group, and the removal categories you can appeal are still expanding through the end of the year. Here is where the appeal lives, the 180-day clock you are on, the evidence that actually gets listings reinstated, and a letter you can copy.
A listing that was selling yesterday is simply gone today: no product page, no traffic, just a removal notice. For years, most Etsy sellers had no real way to contest that. The listing stayed down, and the only lever was a support ticket that rarely went anywhere.
That changed this fall. On October 22, 2026, Etsy opened listing appeals to all sellers, and the process now runs through a dedicated Policy Violations page in Shop Manager with a "View & appeal" flow for each removed listing. You get 180 days per listing to file. If you sell print-on-demand designs, where a single flagged phrase or a missing disclosure can take a listing down overnight, this is the most important account-health change Etsy has made in years. This guide walks through exactly how it works.
What Changed in 2026
The appeal system did not appear out of nowhere. It is the last piece of a policy overhaul Etsy rolled out across 2025 and 2026, and the timeline matters because it explains why so many POD listings started disappearing in the first place.
-
June 2025
Etsy rewrote its Creativity Standards. Listings now carry item-detail tags (Made by, Designed by, Handpicked by, Sourced by), and production-partner disclosure came under much closer scrutiny. Many POD sellers were caught off guard.
-
July 9, 2026
Etsy's Seller Policy was updated, setting up the new enforcement and violations framework.
-
July 23, 2026
An improved Policy Violations system began giving sellers more detailed reasons for each removal, instead of a generic policy citation. That detail is what makes a targeted appeal possible.
-
October 22, 2026
Listing appeals opened to all sellers. Appeals covering Creativity Standards, intellectual property, and Prohibited Items removals are rolling out in stages through the end of 2026, so the exact categories you can appeal may expand over the coming weeks.
The one caveat to know up front
Because the category rollout runs through the end of 2026, a removal you cannot appeal today may become appealable soon. If the "View & appeal" option is missing for a recent removal, note the date and check the Policy Violations page again rather than assuming the listing is gone for good. Your 180-day window keeps running either way.
Why Etsy Removes POD Listings
An appeal only works if it answers the actual reason for the removal. These are the four causes that account for nearly every POD takedown, and each one calls for different evidence.
Intellectual property Most common
A trademarked phrase, a brand name in your tags, or artwork that reads as someone else's property. Etsy removed more than 1.5 million listings for IP violations in 2024, and enforcement has only tightened since. Rights holders sue too: Disney took Etsy sellers to court in 2026 over Minnie Mouse-inspired headbands, and the shop was banned.
Creativity Standards
The June 2025 rewrite made the "designed by you, produced by a partner" model something you have to state clearly and accurately. Wrong item-detail tags or an undeclared production partner can get a POD listing pulled even when the design itself is fine.
Missing AI disclosure
Enforcement of Etsy's AI disclosure policy began January 14, 2026. Around 12,000 listings were removed and about 8,500 warnings issued in Q1 2026 for missing or incorrect disclosure, and POD sellers using AI-generated art were hit hardest.
Prohibited items
Designs that cross Etsy's prohibited-items lines, whatever the product they are printed on. These removals are the hardest to reverse, and appeals for this category are part of the staged rollout through the end of 2026.
Do not blindly accept Etsy's own AI title suggestions
Sellers on r/EtsySellers have reported accepting suggested titles that contained trademarked terms, then watching Etsy remove the listings for the very words its tool proposed. A suggestion from the platform is not a clearance from the platform.
How to Appeal, Step by Step
Etsy's official process lives in Shop Manager, not in the removal email. Work through these steps in order; steps 3 and 4 are where most sellers rush and lose.
-
Find the removal on the Policy Violations page
Open Shop Manager and go to the Policy Violations page. Every listing Etsy has removed is listed there with its status. This page, not your email inbox, is the source of truth and the only place you can appeal.
Shop Manager → Policy Violations -
Open "View & appeal" for that listing
Select the removed listing and choose View & appeal. If the option is not there yet, your removal category may still be in the staged rollout (Creativity Standards, IP, and Prohibited Items appeals are rolling out through the end of 2026). Your 180-day clock is still running, so set a reminder to check back.
-
Read the exact reason before you write anything
Since the July 23, 2026 update, removal notices give more specific reasons than they used to. Note the precise policy cited: an IP removal, a Creativity Standards removal, and an AI disclosure removal each need a completely different response. Appealing the wrong issue is the fastest route to a denial.
-
Gather your evidence first
Assemble the proof described in the evidence section below before you open the appeal form: original design files, production partner documentation, or your license. Appeals are judged on what you attach, not on how strongly you feel about it.
-
Write a short, factual appeal
State what was removed, the reason Etsy gave, why the removal does not hold up, and what you have attached to prove it. One or two short paragraphs plus your evidence beats a long emotional letter. A copy-ready version is below.
-
Submit it well inside the 180-day window
You have 180 days from the removal date for that listing, and the window is per listing, so a batch of removals means a batch of separate deadlines. File as soon as your evidence is ready rather than sitting on it; the sooner a winning listing is back, the sooner it earns again.
Check Your Appeal Deadline
Enter the date Etsy removed your listing and see the last day of your 180-day appeal window.
Appeal deadline calculator
Etsy gives you 180 days per listing, counted from the removal date. Miss it and the listing cannot be appealed, however strong your case is.
Calculated from Etsy's published 180-day appeal window for listing removals. Confirm the exact status of your listing on the Policy Violations page in Shop Manager.
The Evidence That Wins Appeals
Etsy's reviewers are answering one question: does this seller have the right to sell this item, presented the way Etsy requires? Your evidence should answer that question for your specific removal reason.
If it was an IP removal
- Proof the design is yours: layered source files, dated drafts, or export history showing you created the artwork before the listing existed.
- A license or permission, if the design legitimately uses someone else's property under an agreement.
- A point-by-point response to the term or element Etsy flagged, showing where it appears in your listing and why it does not infringe. If a trademarked phrase slipped into your tags, say so and show it removed.
If it was a Creativity Standards removal
- Production partner documentation: show that your print provider (Printful, Printify, or whoever fulfills for you) is declared as a production partner on the listing, matching how the item is actually made.
- Corrected item-detail tags: confirm the listing is tagged accurately under the post-2025 scheme, designed by you and produced by your partner, and say what you fixed.
If it was an AI disclosure removal
- The corrected disclosure: confirm the listing now discloses AI-generated elements the way Etsy's policy requires, and show the updated text. With roughly 12,000 listings removed over disclosure in Q1 2026 alone, this is the most fixable removal on the list.
Keep a proof folder for every design
The sellers who win appeals are the ones who can produce a source file in two minutes. Save the layered design file, the date you made it, and your production partner details for every upload. It feels like admin until the day it is the whole appeal.
A Copy-Ready Appeal Letter
Adapt this to your removal reason. Replace the bracketed parts, attach the evidence it mentions, and keep your own version this short.
Hello, I am appealing the removal of my listing, [listing title], which was removed on [date]. The notice cites [the policy or reason Etsy gave]. This design is my original work. I created it on [date], and I have attached [the layered source file / dated drafts / export history] as proof. The item is produced by my declared production partner, [Printful / Printify / other], which is listed in my shop's production partner settings. [If AI tools were involved, add: The artwork includes AI-generated elements, and the listing has been updated to disclose that, as Etsy's policy requires.] Please reinstate the listing, or let me know exactly what further information you need from me. Thank you, [Your name] [Shop name]
One letter per listing. If several listings were removed in the same sweep for the same reason, file each appeal separately with its own listing title and date, since the 180-day window runs per listing.
Mistakes That Sink an Appeal
- Appealing before reading the reason. A generic "this is my design, please restore it" does not answer a Creativity Standards or disclosure removal. Match the response to the policy Etsy actually cited.
- Relisting the same design unchanged while you wait. Putting the identical listing straight back up invites a second removal for the same issue, and repeat IP removals are how a listing problem turns into an account problem.
- Letting the window close. The 180 days run from the removal date whether or not you noticed the removal. Sellers who only check their shop weekly can lose weeks before they even know a listing is down.
- Opening a new shop to start over. If a situation ever escalates to a ban, Etsy prohibits opening a new account, and it tracks bank details, IP addresses, and tax IDs to enforce that. Preserving the shop you have is always the better play.
A listing removal is not a shop suspension. The process in this article covers individual listings removed by Etsy. A suspended shop is a separate, more serious situation with its own appeal route. New shops are also routinely auto-suspended by Etsy's anti-fraud bots and are often reactivated on appeal, which is nerve-wracking but normal. Keep the two problems separate in your head, and in your messages to Etsy.
Keep the Next Listing Up
Appeals are the recovery play. Prevention is cheaper, and for POD sellers it comes down to a short routine you run before every upload, not after every removal.
- Check every phrase before it goes on a design. Search the catchy fragment, not just the whole slogan, and check it against trademark records for the product class you are selling. Surprises like "onesie" (a Gerber trademark) catch experienced sellers, not just beginners.
- Declare your production partners on every listing, and keep the item-detail tags accurate: designed by you, produced by them. Most Creativity Standards trouble starts here.
- Disclose AI-generated art the way Etsy requires, at upload time, not after a warning. The January 2026 enforcement wave removed listings first and explained later.
- Question Etsy's AI title suggestions before accepting them. Sellers have had listings removed for trademarked terms that Etsy's own tool suggested.
- Save your proof as you go: source files, creation dates, and partner details for every design, so any appeal takes minutes to assemble.
- Watch your listings between uploads. A removal you catch on day one leaves you 179 days to fix it. One you catch on day 170 leaves you almost none.
Every listing, every platform, every deadline in one place. PODTrackerPRO's Listing Tracker keeps your listings from Etsy, Amazon, Redbubble, and TeePublic in one dashboard, so when a listing comes down you can record the removal, the reason Etsy gave, and the appeal deadline right where you manage the rest of your catalog.
Quick Answers
How long do I have to appeal an Etsy listing removal?
180 days from the date Etsy removed the listing. The window applies per listing, so if several listings were removed on different dates, each has its own deadline. Use the calculator above to find yours.
Can every seller appeal now, or is it still a pilot?
The system is open to every seller now. Etsy opened listing appeals to all sellers on October 22, 2026, ending the pilot. Appeals for specific categories, including Creativity Standards, intellectual property, and Prohibited Items removals, are rolling out in stages through the end of 2026, so the categories covered may still be expanding.
Where exactly do I file the appeal?
In Shop Manager, on the Policy Violations page. Find the removed listing and choose "View & appeal". Etsy's help center documents the same process. Appeals are not filed through the removal email or a general support ticket.
What if my whole shop was suspended, not just a listing?
That is a different process from the listing appeal covered here. Shop suspensions have their own appeal route, and new shops in particular are often auto-suspended by anti-fraud systems and reactivated after appealing. Do not open a replacement shop in the meantime: Etsy bans that, and links accounts by bank details, IP address, and tax ID.
Etsy removed my listing over AI disclosure. Is it worth appealing?
Yes, and it is one of the most fixable removals. Enforcement began January 14, 2026, and about 12,000 listings were removed in the first quarter. Correct the disclosure on the listing, show Etsy the updated text in your appeal, and file inside your 180-day window.
